These are the first wins and nominations for Stéphanie Guillon & Pierre-Olivier Persin.
When one thinks about makeup and hairstyling from the film year of 2024 I do not understand how The Substance isn't everyone's choice. Yes the design is flashy given the body horror element of the plot and while those effects are impressive it's the subtle build up to the gore at the end that really sold the design fully for me. When character designs like what is featured in The Substance becomes known in the popular culture then you know the work is standout.
The team behind The Substance should be really proud of themselves for creating some of the great makeup/hairstyling work that I have had the honour to witness in my lifetime.
