This is the first win and nomination for Patricia Cuccia. Judy Becker receives her second win and fourth nomination. Becker previously won for Carol (2015) and was nominated for I'm Not There (2007) & American Hustle (2013).
When a film is about a craft I find it very difficult not to award anything but that film it that given technical category and this has proven true this year by The Brutalist easily winning my production design award this year. My viewing of The Brutalist came very late in the year but even upon first viewing I was so impressed by the simplistic beauty of each and every set piece of the film.
I mean just thinking of the large scale sets being built throughout and how this was accomplished on such a small budget is an even more impressive craft achievement. Congrats to the team of Judy and Patricia for their shared production design this year.
