OUTSTANDING SOUND FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOVIE

Fosse/Verdon ("Glory")
Game of Thrones (“The Long Night”)
The Haunting of Hill House (“The Bent-Neck Lady”)
Sharp Objects (“Dirt”)
When They See Us (“Part 4”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

GAME OF THRONES ("THE LONG NIGHT")

This is the fourth win and eighth nomination for the Game of Thrones sound department. They won for their sound work on Season 1-3 and were also nominated for Season 4-7.

While ultimately disappointed by just about everything regarding these final Game of Thrones episodes a lot of the technical departments of the show cannot really be knocked down. The dark battle episode this season while slightly underwhelming was an incredible achievement in television production.  Just thinking about the dying sounds and lights as armies charge into battle has really stuck out in my mind. Other spectacular sound moments in this particular episode include the large flying dragon fight, the death of the white walkers and the ultimate sound of death that spreads throughout the entire episode when our heroes defeat the great evil the show had been building since it's pilot.

OUTSTANDING ANIMATED PROGRAM

American Dad! (“One-Woman Swole”)
Big Mouth (“The Planned Parenthood Show”)
Bob's Burgers (“Tweentrepreneurs”)
Bojack Horseman (“Free Churro”)
South Park (“Nobody Got Cereal?”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

BIG MOUTH ("THE PLANNED PARENTHOOD SHOW")

This is the first win and nomination for Big Mouth.

As I said in the previous award post it took me until this pasttv  season to actually give Big Mouth a dedicated watch. I quickly binged through both seasons of the show and was unsurprisingly stunned by it's greatness. There's a lot of awkward humour on the show and rather than feeling unfunny it's very enjoyably humorous. This episode I've singled out as it's season best was a standout but I really could've sited any episode as each was great to watch and now I'll be watching the show for as long as it airs in the future (the recent three season renewel was the best news ever).

OUTSTANDING VOICEOVER PERFORMANCE

Nick Kroll as Nick Birch / Maury the Hormone Monster / Coach Steve / Lola / Rick the Hormone Monster for (“Steve the Virgin”) in "BIG MOUTH"
Anthony Mendez as Narrator for (“Chapter Ninety-Two”) in "JANE THE VIRGIN"
John Roberts as Linda Belcher for (“Lorenzo's Oil? No, Linda's”) in "BOB'S BURGERS
Maya Rudolph as Diane Birch / Connie the Hormone Monstress for (“Steve the Virgin”) in "BIG MOUTH"
Paul F. Thompkis as Mr. Peanutbutter for (“Mr. Peanutbutter’s Boos”) in "BOJACK HORSEMAN"

AND THE WINNER IS:

MAYA RUDOLPH AS DIANE BIRCH / CONNIE THE HORMONE MONSTRESS FOR ("STEVE THE VIRGIN") IN "BIG MOUTH"

This is the first win and third nomination for Maya Rudolph. She was previously nominated for Saturday Night Live (2010, 2012).

Maya Rudolph is one of the greatest comedians period. She has dominated the comedy scene in the 21st century whether it be as a series regular on SNL, guesting on comedy shows or her voiceover work. Her voice work as Connie the Hormone Monstress is so spectacular and so singular it showcases how Rudolph can manipulate her comedy through just her voice. The way she speaks particular words in the role is so unique and special that they remain stuck in my mind. I hate that it took me until the second season to actually binge watch Big Mouth cause I was missing out on a great show and especially the work of Maya.

OUTSTANDING CASTING FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOVIE

Olivia Scott-Webb for Fleabag
Tiffany Little Canfield & Bernard Telsey for Fosse/Verdon
Alexa L. Fogel for Pose
David Rubin, Tara Feldstein & Chase Paris for Sharp Objects
Aisha Coley, Billy Hopkins, Ahley Ingram & Ian Subsara for When They See Us

AND THE WINNER IS

ALEXA L. FOGEL FOR POSE

This is the first win and fourth nomination for Alexa L. Fogel. She was previously nominated for casting Oz (2000), The Wire (2004) & True Detective (2014).

Just prepare for all the Pose love. It's been over a year since the first season premiered (we are currently watching the wonderful second season) yet I still adore everything this series has done for the landscape of television. Never has a show featured so many trans actors of colour playing actual trans characters. The casting has to be praised due to its inclusiveness finding exciting new acting talent and also providing opportunity for well established performers like Billy Porter. Fogel and the entire casting department have done something so simple as casting diverse talent in roles that they are appropriate casting for and in an era of media where diverse casting needs to increase a show like Pose is leading the charge.
