AND THE WINNER IS:

THE CROWN

This is the first win and second nomination for The Crown in this category. For its fourth season The Crown has received fourteen nominations winning four of them. The show won for Series, Drama Writing, Casting & Costume Design. The show was also nominated for Ensemble, Leading Actor (O'Connor), Leading Actress (Corrin), Supporting Actor (Menzies), Supporting Actress (Anderson), Guest Actor (Brooke), Guest Actor (Burke), Art Direction, Hairstyling & Music Composition.

There's a reason why The Crown has become such a brilliant success this year. It was just an incredible season that bounced back from a rather awkward third season for me. It was hard for me to deny the shows brilliance this year which is why with some incredible competition it was always gonna be my series winner.

POSE (MJ RODRIGUEZ, DOMINIQUE JACKSON, BILLY PORTER, INDYA MOORE, HAILLIE SAHAR, ANGEL BISMARK CURIEL, DYLLON BURNSIDE, SANDRA BERNHARD, JEREMY POPE, JASON A. RODRIGUEZ)

This is the second win and third nomination for the ensemble of Pose.

The cast of Pose has been incredible since day one and while some try to downplay the casts incredible talent I for one have never bought into it and have found every actor who showed up on the show to be truly incredible. In the final season the cast are just so wonderful again and worthy of this ensemble trophy

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN DRAMA SERIES

Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher for (“48:1”) in “THE CROWN”
Aunjanue Ellis as Hippolyta Freeman for (“I Am.”) in “LOVECRAFT COUNTRY”
Dominique Jackson as Elektra Evangelista for (“The Trunk”) in “POSE”
Indya Moore as Angel Vasquez-Evangelista for (“Something Old, Something New”) in “POSE”
Wunmi Mosaku as Ruby Baptiste for (“Strange Case”) in “LOVECRAFT COUNTRY”
Jordan Kristine Seamón as Caitlin Poythress for (“Right here, right now #2”) in “WE ARE WHO WE ARE”

AND THE WINNER IS:

WUNMI MOSAKU AS RUBY BAPTISTE FOR ("STRANGE CASE") IN "LOVECRAFT COUNTRY"

This is the first win and nomination for Wunmi Mosaku.

Mosaku before last year was an actress I had never heard of or even seen a project in which she starred in. As Ruby in Lovecraft Country instantly she was fascinating and incredible to watch. In the series fifth episode Strange Case gives a showcase for Mosaku, she plays all the transformation scenes incredibly well and manages to sell the pain her character experiences whenever taking part in the horrific transformations. She also is given more emotional moments to play and all she's asked to play is really effective and stellar to behold. Mosaku since this show premiered as showed how charismatic a performer she is in projects like His House and Loki so I look forward to what the future holds for this performer.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton for (“An Affair of Honor”) in “BRIDGERTON”
Angel Bismark Curiel as Esteban "Lil Papi" Martinez-Evangelista for (“Something Old, Something New”) in “POSE”

Michael Kenneth Williams as Montrose Freeman for (“Rewind 1921”) in “LOVECRAFT COUNTRY”

AND THE WINNER IS:

MICHAEL KENNETH WILLIAMS AS MONTROSE FREEMAN FOR ("REWIND 1921") IN "LOVECRAFT COUNTRY"

This is the third win and twelfth nomination for Michael Kenneth Williams. He won with the ensemble of The Wire (2007) and individually for When They See Us (2019). He was also nominated for The Wire (2003, 2005, 2008) and with the ensemble's of The Wire (2003-2004, 2008) & Boardwalk Empire (2012, 2014-2015).

I had originally written a piece praising just his performance because series Williams as Montrose was so incredible that matter how strong a performance came along he was always going to be my choice in this category. Sadly due to recent events Williams is no longer with us and with this series being one of his final products he has left us with I both want to praise his work in this series but also his work throughout his lengthy career. I feel Williams inclusion in many stellar tv shows is appreciated now but as time progresses many will only join the side of good and praise his work heavily.
It truly was such a sad when we all found out about his passing and knowing he was likely to win an Emmy for his performance as Montrose is even more heartbreaking as his devoted fandom and great career were about to justly awarded such a high honour. If he does end of winning the win will be bittersweet and I like many will be emotional. All I can end with is a thank you to all that Williams gave us and send my love and thoughts to those close to him who have also lost a close relation.

OUTSTANDING DIRECTING FOR A DRAMA SERIES

Cheryl Duyne for (“Strange Case”), Lovecraft Country
Misha Green for (“Jig-A-Bobo”), Lovecraft Country
Luca Guadagnino for (“Right here, right now #1”), We Are Who We Are
Bryce Dallas Howard for (“Chapter 11: The Heiress”), The Mandalorian
Janet Mock for (“On the Run”), Pose

AND THE WINNER IS:

CHERYL DUNNE FOR ("STRANGE CASE"), LOVECRAFT COUNTRY

This is the first win and nomination for Cheryl Dunne.

Dunne a director who came into prominesce with Watermelon Woman over 20 years ago stops by the world of Lovecraft Country and directs an episode that is so spine chillingly horrifying that I'll never forget many of the images present in the series. I hope Dunne's work on the series improves her name and makes people notice her work because she proves nearly every time how wonderful her output is.

OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A DRAMA SERIES

Steven Canals & Our Lady J for (“Intervention”), Pose
Yahlin Chang for (“Home”), The Handmaid’s Tale
Misha Green for (“Sundown”), Lovecraft Country
Peter Morgan for (“Favourites”), The Crown
Lucy Prebble for (“Shock”), I Hate Suzie

AND THE WINNER IS:

PETER MORGAN FOR ("FAVOURITES"), THE CROWN

This is the first win and second nomination for Peter Morgan. He was previously nominated for writing The Special Relationship (2010).

Morgan has been writing content about the royals for 15 years now and with his work on the fourth season of The Crown he has for me crafted perhaps the best work on his career. This season had so many beautifly written moments that I will think about for some time and the "Favourites" episode was an especially great episode. The episode features many scenes of conversations between mothers and children with each conversation being incredible giving a great insight to the characters at the centre of the series.

OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Uzo Aduba as Dr. Brooke Lawrence for ("Brooke – Week 5") in "IN TREATMENT"
Emma Corrin as Lady Diana Spencer / Princess Diana for (“Fairytale”) in “THE CROWN”
Brandee Evans as Mercedes Woodbine for (“The Trap”) in “P-VALLEY”
Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne for (“Home”) in “THE HANDMAID’S TALE”
MJ Rodriguez as Bianca Rodriguez-Evangelista for (“Series Finale (Part 2)”) in “POSE”
Jurnee Smollett as Letitia "Letti" Lewis for (“Holy Ghost”) in “LOVECRAFT COUNTRY”

AND THE WINNER IS:

MJ RODRIGUEZ AS BIANCA RODRIGUEZ-EVANGELISTA FOR ("SERIES FINALE (PART 2)") IN "POSE"

This is the third win and fifth nomination for MJ Rodriguez  She previously won individually and as a member of the ensemble of Pose (2019). She was also nominated in both categories for Pose's second season.

This season when MJ Rodriguez's name was announced as an Emmy nominee in this category it instantly become one of the greatest major awards nomination I've witnessed in my lifetime. Since day 1 Rodriguez has been spectacular as Bianca and to see her get major love is so well deserved. In this final season Rodriguez was her usual great self but especially in the shows series finale where we find MJ have to play Bianca at so many difficult parts in her life. Rodriguez is such a charismatic performer that based on her work on this FX series I am sure to closely follow each upcoming project she'll have.
I do hope in some future universe MJ can pull off the drama actress win because while there are just as worthy co-nominees MJ's win would mark a great moment to recognise a great performer but also a moment to show that actors like MJ can be brilliant and truly deserve awards recognition like any other performer.

OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Nicco Annan as Uncle Clifford for (“Perpetratin”) in “P-VALLEY”
Jack Dylan Grazer as Fraser Wilson for (“Right here, right now #1”) in “WE ARE WHO WE ARE”
Jonathan Majors as Atticus "Tic" Freeman for (“Sundown”) in “LOVECRAFT COUNTRY”
Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles for (“War”) in “THE CROWN”
Regé-Jean Page as Simon Bassett for (“Diamond of the First Water”) in “BRIDGERTON”
Billy Porter as Pray Tell for (“Intervention”) in “POSE”

AND THE WINNER IS:

BILLY PORTER AS PRAY TELL FOR ("INTERVENTION") IN "POSE"

This is the fourth win and fifth nomination for Billy Porter. He now wins his third time in this category. He also won as part of Pose's ensemble in season 1 while also being nominated for season 2.

It'a rare for me to award a performer for every season of a show's run but when it comes to Porter he has been just so brillant each year on Pose that it sort've became impossible not to award him each year. This final season featured many brilliant moments from the actor but especially in the "Intervention" titled episode he is spectacular. Porter is an actor who can go big yet it never feels over the top and always grounded in reality. The above scene features Porter at his best and made my choice to award him for the final time pretty easy.

OUTSTANDING REALITY COMPETITION PROGRAM

The Amazing Race (“Red Lipstick is Not My Color”)
Nailed It! (“Travel Dos and Donuts”)
RuPaul's Drag Race (“Freaky Friday Queens”)
Top Chef (“Feeding the Frontlines”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

TOP CHEF ("FEEDING THE FRONTLINES")

This is the second consecutive win and eight nomination in this category for Top Chef.

I thought last season was the best one from Top Chef but I was not prepared for this Portland edition and how spectacular it was to watch every week. While the ending was not the outcome I wanted most I cannot deny how exciting the show was to watch week to week.
