ETHAN HAWKE AS JOHN BROWN IN "THE GOOD LORD BIRD"
This is the first win and second nomination for Ethan Hawke. He wins for his performance as John Brown and was previously nominated for Alias (2003).
Ethan Hawke has surely been having a great couple of years as of late where with each new project he is attached to is released I try my best to check it out. Good Lord Bird was one such project where I floated towards it mainly due to Hawke's involvement and while he was obviously fantastic in it the series itself also proved to be one of the best things I managed to see this year. To discuss Hawke's greatness more I must praise him for managing to ground this clearly wild role and never falling victim to Brown who could easily be played over the top by a less skilled performer. The above clip is just one of many scenes which showcase how excellent Hawke was as Brown. Hawke 3 years ago was my favourite leading male in First Reformed and now with this win he's showing how easily adaptable his skill is no matter the medium it's delivered in.
