OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR MOVIE

Michaela Coel as Arabella Essiedu in “I MAY DESTROY YOU”
Thuso Mbedu as Cora Randall in “THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD”
Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch in “WANDAVISION”
Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn as Martha Trenton in “SMALL AXE”
Lydia West as Jill Baxter in “IT’S A SIN”
Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan in “MARE OF EASTTOWN”

AND THE WINNER IS:

THUSO MBEDU AS CORA RANDALL IN "THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD"

This is the first win and nomination for Thuso Mbedu. She wins for her performance as Cora in The Underground Railroad.

Jenkins proves yet again how genius he is at casting when it comes to new discoveries. Mbedu while not in her debut screen performance is an actor I'd not seen before and oh boy was I blown away by her incredible work from the very minute she showed up on screen. The role of Cora would be a difficult for any actor to play as you are experiencing a constantly changing emotional range from episode to episode. While Mbedu has many loud moments I think what I most appreciated about her work were the more quiet moments from her where we were relying entirely on the her face to let us know how to feel for Cora. It truly is exciting to now know Thuso and I will only follow closely whatever project she decides to work on next whether it's with Jenkins or not.
