AND THE WINNER IS:

MERRITT WEVER AS MONICA O'BRIEN FOR ("MARRIAGE IS A GAMBLE") IN "THE GILDED AGE"

This is the first win and seventh nomination for Merritt Wever. She was previously nominated individually for Nurse Jackie (2011, 2014), Godless (2018), Severance (2025). She was also nominated alongside the ensemble of Nurse Jackie (2012-2013)She wins for her performance as Monica O'Brien on The Gilded Age.

From the moment the Season 3 first look photos were released and we got our first disapproving look for Merritt Wever I knew I was gonna be impressed by her performance and when watching her single episode during the third season Wever as she tends to do did not disappoint. Playing the visiting sister of Carrie Coon's Bertha Russell having both these incredible television actresses interacting together was magnificent.

The Gilded Age always gives space for it's cast to perform and with just a single episode Wever immediately becomes a memorable character from the show and a person who I'd like to see appear again because of how well developed she was and the great dramatic acting that came from Coon and Wever acting together.

It finally feels nice to award Wever a trophy after such great work across a variety of television programmes which many have earned her Emmy Awards, three to be exact.

PATRICK STEWART AS THE VOICE OF PIG HEAD IN "BAIT"

This is the first win and fourth nomination for Patrick Stewart. He was previously nominated for The Lion in Winter (2004), Extras (2006) and Hamlet (2010).

Patrick Stewart voicing a Pig Head is sentence one might never imagined themselves writing yet it's true he voiced this part in the great artistic miniseries Bait. Stewart provides such a brilliant voice performance making each line he spoke funnier than the last and most especially as important a strong element to the success of the season as Riz Ahmed's leading performance was.

BYRON BOWERS AS DEMARR DAVIS FOR ("DOORMAN") IN "WONDER MAN"

This is the first win and nomination for Byron Bowers. He wins for his performance as DeMarr Davis on Wonder Man.

Going into Wonder Man I did not know what to expect from this latest MCU television series and once I'd made my way through the series I was so thrilled by the series great standalone episodes especially the fourth hour titled "Doorman" which allowed Byron Bowers a great chance at sucess.

Bowers I wasn't familiar with prior to this series yet his excellent performance immediately made me take notice and will continue to do so. As DeMarr Davis he managed to blend comedy and pathos into a single episode of television delivering one of the standout performances of the season.

While it's high unlikely we will see Bowers again when the series returns I am glad in this debut season we were gifted such a standout comedic turn.

The Gilded Age has been such a rewarding series to stick with over the years where the show has increased in quality with each new season that airs. In the shows third season the world expanded and casting of characters we loved grew that I had a great time tuning in each new week to check out the shows brilliance.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION DESIGN FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOVIE

Production Design by Grace Yun; Set Decoration by Kellie Jo Tinney for (“All the Things We're Never Going to Have”), Beef
Production Design by Bob Shaw; Set Decoration by Jennifer Alex Nickason for ("Marriage is a Gamble"), The Gilded Age
Production Design by Simon Rogers for (“The Commander and the Grey Lady”), Industry

This is the second win and third nomination for Patrick Howe and first win/nomination for Rich Murray. Patrick previously won for Only Murders in the Building (2025) and was nominated for Only Murders in the Building (2023).

Regardless of the quality of the story telling of Only Murders in the Building what will always be stand out about the series is the production/set design team and how inventive they can be in regards to all the incredible locations murders take place on each year the show runs. This fifth season marked another great triumph by the team with the under apartment casino, locations for all the new characters and just time revisited to stand out spaces of all the previous five years. With the show travelling abroad next season I only expect the team to find even more inventive design that maybe a third straight win might occur again.

The quality of The Gilded Age continues to grow as a show I outright love each year it airs and of course this turn of the century set drama continues to feature beautiful costume designs for it's host of characters featured. I would gladly have the show continue for many years to come to appreciate so much of it's greatness with Kasia Walicka-Maimone and her wardrobe team responsible for so much of the glorious gowns.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES

Khandi Alexander as Miss Carroll for (“Mall 3: Heroes”) in "ABBOTT ELEMENTARY"
Candice Bergen as Constance for (“Dereks' Don't Die”) in "SHRINKING"
Ayo Edebiri as Mimi Rush for (“Roger & Munchy”) in "I LOVE L.A."
Lisa Gilroy as Christine Westbrook-Clark for (“Team Building”) in "JURY DUTY PRESENTS: COMPANY RETREAT"
Taraji P. Henson as Vanetta for (“Birthday”) in "ABBOTT ELEMENTARY"
Brie Larson as Francie Fak for ("Bears") in "THE BEAR"

AND THE WINNER IS:

AYO EDEBIRI AS MIMI RUSH FOR ("ROGER & MUNCHY") IN "I LOVE L.A."

This is the first win and seventh nomination for Ayo Edebiri. She was previously nominated individually for The Bear (2023-2024) & Abbott Elementary (2023); she was also nominated alongside the ensemble of The Bear (2023-2025). She wins for her performance as Mimi Rush on I Love L.A.

Ayo Edebiri has truly been on a rollercoaster ride of a career in the past 5 years where she has been apart of many successful comedy led projects (some dramas too) establishing herself as name to be admired. Edebiri co-starring with I Love L.A. creator Rachel Sennott in the great 2023 comedy Bottoms I'm sure led to Ayo's guest appearance on her HBO series which I am so thankful for.

Edebiri who plays an eccentric British pop star on her two episode appearance has a wacky British accent and expression on her face many times throughout that had me in stiches. Edebiri's accent landing somewhere between terrible and convincing made the performance that much more stand out and even with a full calendar year passing since the series aired I've not forgotton Edebiri's delightful guest appearance. With the show being renewed for a second season I hope Sennot and her writers can find a way to bring Edebiri back as she was so fun in her two episode appearance.

2025-26 "An Irish Person" TV AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Welcome yet again to my rundown of what I consider to be the best in television of this past year. This time it's for the 2025-26 TV season. I watch and love a lot of TV so my nominees usually cover a variety of different shows. I will be starting to announce nominees and winners in all categories daily leading up to the actual Primetime Emmy Awards which this year will air on September 14th. I will start tomorrow with "Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series".

On July 8th the 78th Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced and just so I don't spoil my choices but reveal a little preview is that there will be some commonalities shared throughout between my choices and the Academies.
