PARKER YOUNG AS PRIVATE FIRST CLASS RANDY HILL FOR ("RANDY GET YOUR GIN") IN "ENLISTED"

Last Year’s Winner: Max Greenfield as Schmidt for (“Table 34”) in “NEW GIRL”

This is the first win for Parker Young on his first nomination for his work on Enlisted.

Enlisted being one of the surprise new shows of the 2013-2014 tv season featured this spectacular breakthrough performance by Parker Young. Playing Randy in each moment of this sadly short lived series he had me rolling in laughter and really he just made the show great to watch week to week. Young made the series work especially in the episode Randy Get Your Gun when Randy must talk about Toy Story 3 without crying and this was quite a funny storyline and showed how great Young was all season long.

OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A COMEDY SERIES

Illana Glazer & Abi Jacobson for (“What a Wonderful World”), Broad City

Andrew Haigh for (“Looking for the Future”), Looking

Louis C.K. for (“Elevator Part 5”), Louie

Nick Jones for (“The Chickening”), Orange is the New Black

Armando Iannucci & David Quantick & Tony Roche for (“Debate”), Veep

AND THE WINNER IS:

ARMANDO IANNUCCI, DAVID QUANTICK & TONY ROCHE FOR ("DEBATE"), VEEP

Last Year’s Winner: Mike White for (“The Ghost is Seen”), Enlightened

This is the first win for Armando Iannucci, David Quantick & Tony Roche on each of their first nominations for their writing of the episode Debate in season 3 of Veep.

Veep as a show has always been funny for me but in the third season I felt the show came more alive and that was because I felt the show had a much stronger focus and throughline and in this episode in particular I felt the show was at it’s best in terms of production but especially the writing. In the episode we see fun of the funniest sequences take place in a presidential debate and each of the characters provides histarical moments as does the people in the green room and overall this episode worked on so many levels and the writing by these three men I felt was very effective in showing the strength of the writing staff of this great show.

Last Year’s Winner: Jane Krakowski as Jenna Maroney for (“Hogcock!/Last Lunch”) in “30 ROCK”

This is the third win (second this year) for Allison Janney on her eight nomination for her work on Mom.

Allison Janney has proved her self dramatically impressively on television but never has she been a full time actress on a sitcom show and in the new Chuck Lorre created show Mom she proves once again why her talent is just effortless. Janney plays the a recovering alcoholic and future great grandmother on the show and Janney week to week handles the comedy so well and blows me away really and owns the show. Janney mostly provides most of my favourite comedy of the show and in the ensemble of the show really stands out and for her work in 2013-2014 season Allison Janney proves once again why she has built her career on being such an effective and versitle actress.

Taran Killam for Saturday Night Live

Kate McKinnon for Saturday Night Live

AND THE WINNER IS:

Last Year’s Winner: Tina Fey & Amy Poehler for 70th Golden Globe Awards

This is the first win for Kate McKinnon on her second nomination for her on Saturday Night Live.

Ever since the turn of the milluneum Saturday Night Live has been dominated by women and Kate McKinnon follows in a long line of great women who ruled the show. McKinnon started on the show just as Kristen Wiig left and the next season everything around McKinnon just was standout to me and she became the best cast member. In the 39th season where there were many problemes and changes McKinnon was one of the people who made the season watchable and because of this and her consistent performances she wins this award.

The Tony Awards when written right land perfectly with funnt quips throughout the show of some histerical interactions with the audience and especially in the most recent version of the awards show Neil Patrick Harris hosting the show made every moment full of comedy as well memorable stagings of great musicals and all of this was down to the writing of the show which continues to be so great lately and consistantly win this award.

AND THE WINNER IS:

67TH TONY AWARDS

This is the first win for the Tony Awards for the 67th Tony Awards on their fourth nomination.

The Tony Awards are really most years the best awards show to watch and this past year the 67th version really was one of the best the awards show has done especially the complete opening of the show which went so great that every moment captured was perfect and we were never taken away from the action. The direction for the show helped to make many musical numbers stand out as they did and the direction added to a great moment for the show.

Jeff Probst for (“Opening Pandora’s Box”), Survivor

AND THE WINNER IS:

Last Year’s Winner: Jeff Probst for Survivor

This is the first win for Cat Deeley on her seventh nomination for her hosting of So You Think You Can Dance.

Cat Deeley with her english accent and over the top reactions is a joy to watch on the FOX reality competition show every week and she wins as this season her hosting seemed to improve if there were actually any room for her to. In a year where I could only remember three people for hosting Deeley is the best in quite a close race.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Gillian Anderson as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier for (“Nikujaga”) in “HANNIBAL”

Analeigh Ashford as Betty DiMello for (“Standard Deviation”) in “MASTERS OF SEX”

Allison Janney as Margaret Scully for (“Brave New World”) in “MASTERS OF SEX”

Lisa Kudrow as Congresswoman Josephine Marcus for (“Icarus”) in “SCANDAL”

Last Year’s Winner: Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni for (“Je Ne Sais What?”) in “THE GOOD WIFE”

This is the second win for Allison Janney on her seventh nomination for her work on Masters of Sex.

The first season Showtime show Masters of Sex featured some great dramatic storylines but off all arcs of the season the Schully relationship stood out to me especially in the performances given by Bridges and Janney who wins this category for her performance. In the sixth episode “A Brave New World” Janney shines in every scene she is given especially in her central interview moment where Janney plays the character less outwardly emotive but is able to create some great drama and this is the talent Janney has in her to work so brillantly in every role she is given and this is but another example of her great talent.

OUTSTANDING CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

David Franco for (“Farewell Daddy Blues”), Boardwalk Empire

Michael Slovis for (“Ozymandias”), Breaking Bad

Dana Gonzales for (“Burdian’s Ass”), Fargo

James Hawkinson for (“Mizumono”), Hannibal

Adam Arkapaw for (“The Long Bright Dark”), True Detective

AND THE WINNER IS:

JAMES HAWKINSON FOR ("MIZUMONO"), HANNIBAL

Last Year’s Winner: James Hawkinson for (“Coquilles”), Hannibal

This is the second consecutive win for James Hawkinson on his second nomination for his work on Hannibal.

The visual style of Hannibal is by far the most unique and weekly fasinating work that can be seen on television and one of the main people reponsible for this style is the cinmatography of the show in particular the work done by James Hawkinson shooting this beautiful and terrifying finale. The episode builds to the climatic fight of the season and how Hawkinson visuals this scene is horrifc but I have full respect for the look of the show and how unique it is. Another point is the franetic style at which the cinematography is shot and it works so well for this show it wins once again for cinematography.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES

Scott Bakula as Lynn for (“Looking for $220/Hour”) in “LOOKING”

Jonathan Banks as Professor Buzz Hickey for (“Introduction to Teaching”) in “COMMUNITY”

Keegan-Michael Key as Reverend Deveaux for (“The Hungry Games”) in “THE MIDDLE”

Christopher Meloni as Ray for (“Detroit”) in “VEEP”

Kevin Pollack as Alvin Biletnikoff for (“Toilet Wine and the Earl of Sandwich”) in “MOM”

PABLO SCHREIBER AS GEORGE "PORNSTACHE" MENDEZ FOR ("TALL MAN WITH FEELINGS") IN "ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK"

Last Year’s Winner: David Lynch as Jack Dall for (“Late Show Part 2”) in “LOUIE”

This is the first win for Pablo Schreiber on his first nomination for his work on Orange is the New Black.

Pornstache is one of those comedic characters that is so funny you do not care for how unlikeable a character he can be and this season he was quite unlikeable but every moment Schreiber was given on the show was some of the best comedy to come from the show. Especially in the episode”Tall Men With Feelings” while we do not feel good towards the character after learning of his troubles we feel sympathetic for the character and Schreiber shines in the role winning this award for his great comedy performance.

OUTSTANDING MAIN TITLES DESIGN

The Bridge

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Orange is the New Black

True Detective

The White Queen

AND THE WINNER IS:

TRUE DETECTIVE

Last Year’s Winner: Top of the Lake

True Detectice wins the titles design award for it’s unique and different opening title sequence created by Patrick Clair.

Similar to how the music of the Orange is the New Black opening titles sequence the design of the titles for True Detective is what for me helps me feel the atmosphere of the show so well. Each image shown in the sequence helps to display some heigh emotions that the show trys to show later on in it’s run and the designed seuqnce just works so well that it in no question is the best of the year.

OUTSTANDING MAIN TITLES THEME MUSIC

American Horror Story: Coven

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Orange is the New Black

True Detective

The White Queen

AND THE WINNER IS:

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

Last Year’s Winner: House of Cards

Orange is the New Black wins the theme music award for the great Regina Spektor song “You’ve Got Time”.

The opening theme song of every episode of Orange is the New Black is in my opnion of the best parts of the each episode just as I find the song to be infectious. The song plays well into the plot of the show where we follow these inmates spending there time in prison and in the lyrics and title of the song “You’ve Got Time” represents for me well what the show is trying to protray across.

OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL MUSIC AND LYRICS

67th Tony Awards – (“Opening Number”)

The Big Bang Theory – (“From The Moment That I Met You”)

Bob’s Burgers – (“Oh Nice Things are Nice”)

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – (“Paddy’s Pub”)

Saturday Night Live – (“Do It In My Twin Bed”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

iT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA ("PADDY'S PUB")

Last Year’s Winner: 30 Rock – “The Rural Juror” (Music by Jeff Richmond; Lyrics by Tina Fey, Jeff Richmond & Tracey Wigfield)

This is the first win for an original song on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia of the first song nominated.

Original Songs for television are in a limited amount usually but this song from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia performed by Charlie Day in an episode where the show was being meta about awards is a song that wins the award. The song is just funny and is a running part of the episode even having a much funnier and wilder version later on in the eisode but the song really fit into this episode for being a comentary mainly on songs written by Randy Newman.

OUTSTANDING COSTUME DESIGN FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

Lou Eyrich for (“Seven Wonders”), American Horror Story: Coven

John A. Dunne for (“Havre de Grace”), Boardwalk Empire

Michele Clapton for (“The Lion and the Rose”), Game of Thrones

Katherine Jane Bryant for (“The Monolith”), Mad Men

Nic Ede for The White Queen

AND THE WINNER IS:

MICHELE CLAPTON FOR ("THE LION AND THE ROSE"), GAME OF THRONES

Last Year’s Winner: Katherine Jane Bryant for (“The Doorway”), Mad Men

This is the first win for Michele Clapton on her second nomination for her work on Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones for being a period/fantasy show usually has some great costume design but this season I felt Michele Clapton the costume designer since season one has outdone hersef in her work. Particularly in the episode “The Lion and the Rose” the work by her was clearly present in the wedding scenes where the many designs of the people of King’s landing are spectacular in showing which character comes from where and they rest in the politically structure. All the costuming is so grand and great that finally I had to reward for Michele Clapton for her great costuming of this series.

OUTSTANDING VOICEOVER PERFORMANCE

Judy Greer for (“Archer Vice: Filibuster”), Archer

Carey Mulligan for The Spoils of Babylon

Amber Nash for (“Archer Vice: Southbound and Down”), Archer

John Roberts for (“I Get Psy-chic Out of You”), Bob’s Burgers

Justin Roiland for (“Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind”), Rick and Morty

AND THE WINNER IS:

JUSTIN ROILAND FOR ("CLOSE RICK-COUNTERS OF THE RICK KIND"), RICK AND MORTY

Last Year’s Winner: Kristen Schaal for (“Topsy”) in “BOB’S BURGERS”

This is the first win for Justin Roiland on his first nomination for his voiceover work on Rick and Morty.

When thinking about the new series Rick and Morty thinking that Justin Roiland does so much voiceover work it is quite impressive that each of his characters are so different especially the change he makes between the two main characters as he plays both. Roiland at times can make his characters quite tough to listen to but his work makes me laugh which is why he easily wins this voiceover award.

OUTSTANDING VISUAL EFFECTS FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

American Horror Story: Coven (“Burn, Witch, Burn!”)

Game of Thrones (“The Watchers of the Wall”)

Hannibal (“Yakimono”)

Orphan Black (“By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried”)

True Detective (“Form and Void”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

GAME OF THRONES ("THE WATCHERS OF THE WALL")

Last Year’s Winner: Game of Thrones (“And Now His Watch is Ended”)

This is the fourth consecutive win for the visual effects team of Game of Thrones on their fourth nomination.

The visual effects of Game of Thrones just keeps getting better and better and they will continue to win for this reason. In the penultimate episode “The Watchers on the Wall”. This episode was a pure battle episode and some of the great visual shots captured where impressively done by the visual effects team in particular in creating the forces of the wildings beyond the wall with some impressive creations such as the giants and the Wolly Mammoth. The visuals added to the great battle episode which is why once again Game of Thrones wins my visual effects award.

OUTSTANDING SOUND FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

Breaking Bad (“To’hajiilee”)

Game of Thrones (“The Watchers of the Wall”)

Hannibal (“Mizumono”)

The Legend of Korra (“Darkness Falls/Light in the Dark”)

True Detective (“Who Goes There”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

BREAKING BAD ("TO'HAJIILEE")

Last Year’s Winner: Game of Thrones (“And Now His Watch is Ended”)

This is the third win for the sound department of Breaking Bad on it’s sixth nomination.

In it’s final season Breaking Bad had some very impressive sound work especially in the 13th episode “To’hajiilee” where directed by Michelle MacLaren was great sequence after sequence where the sound work was very noticable. Firstly is the last season where the shoot out happens and while we do not see much the sound adds to the tension of the moments. Sound also plays an important part in building tension throughout the episode which is why I found the sound the best of the year as it helped to build upon the plot.

OUTSTANDING CASTING FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

Carmen Cuba for Behind the Candelabra

Nina Gold and Robert Sterne for Game of Thrones

Mark Saks for The Good Wife

Christal Karge for Justified

Carrie Audino and Laura Schiff for Mad Men

AND THE WINNER IS:

MARK SAKS FOR THE GOOD WIFE

Last Year’s Winner: Judy Henderson for Homeland

A second win for Mark Saks on his fourth nomination for working on The Good Wife.

Casting is one of the key components to the success of a tv show and usually not much casting is done outside of the first season but a show like The Good Wife in it’s third season usually has many guest starts coming to the show every week and the great job Saks has done is picked the right people (e.g. Carrie Preston, Michael J. Fox, etc) to join the show making them fit in right so they can come back time and time again and only add to the quality of the show.

OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Beau Bridges as Barton Scully for (“Love and Marriage”) in “MASTERS OF SEX”

Robert Morse as Bertram Cooper for (“Waterloo”) in “MAD MEN”

Joe Morton as Rowan Pope for (“A Door Marked Exit”) in “SCANDAL”

Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell for (“Mockingbird”) in “GAME OF THRONES”

Michael Pitt as Mason Verger for (“Tomewan”) in “HANNIBAL”

James Wolk as Bob Benson for (“The Strategy”) in “MAD MEN”

AND THE WINNER IS:

PEDRO PASCAL AS OBERYN MARTELL FOR ("MOCKINGBIRD") IN "GAME OF THRONES"

Last Year’s Winner: Nathan Lane as Clarke Hayden for (“Anatomy of a Joke”) in “THE GOOD WIFE"

This is the first win for Pedro Pascal on his first nomination for his work on Game of Thrones.

As a book reader of the Game of Thrones series I knew the character arc of Oberyn Martell would be one of the best parts of the fourth season of Game of Thrones. After this past season I was not disappointed and the perfect casting of Pedro Pascal made the character so compelling from his first moment until his tragic end. Pedro Pacal brought such natural carisma to this role which is why I found the performance so compelling especially in the Mockingbird episode with only one scene he was fantastic and genius in delievering this scene and like much of his work in the season it was brillant.

OUTSTANDING MAKEUP FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

American Horror Story: Coven (“Burn, Witch, Burn!”)

Game of Thrones (“The Chidren”)

Hannibal (“Tome-wan”)

The Normal Heart

True Detective (“The Secret Fate If All Life”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

HANNIBAL ("TOME-WAN")

Last Year’s Winner: Game of Thrones (“The Bear and the Maiden Fair”)

This is the first win the for the Makeup team of Hannibal on their second nomination.

Hannibal had some great makeup tricks in it’s first season but in this second season the work was dilled up to another level this season. The standout creation occured in the episode Tome-wan when Mason Verger after adrug trip under the guidance of Hannibal is forced into eating his face off and while the makeup is shown in darkness the impressive makeup job can be seen which is why this show wins the makeup award for the work done the whole season.
