AND THE WINNER IS:
THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
With this win The Underground receives its eighth prize from fifteen nominations. The series also won leading actress (Mbedu), supporting actor (Pierre), supporting actress (Atim), directing, cinematography, music composition & sound. It was also nominated for leading actor (Egerton), writing, production design, casting, costume design, editing & makeup.
The Underground Railroad would've really had to godawful for me not to want to award it this miniseries prize. The series had high expectations before I even checked out a second of it but in my house in Barry Jenkins we trust. He has proven himself time and again to be an excellent artist and with Railroad he has crafted yet another masterwork. As many have admitted to the series isn't easy to watch but in my world when has the hardness of a project to watch ever been a detractor. Not everything needs to candy coated and with this series nothing is left out. The series is deserving of so many more mentions than it ended up getting and it's why the series is one of my top series of this past calendar year.
