Kym Whitley as Renee (“Hot Seat”) in “LOOT”

AND THE WINNER IS:

TARAJI P. HENSON AS VANETTA TEAGUES FOR ("MOM") IN "ABBOTT ELEMENTARY"

This is the first win and third nomination for Taraji P. Henson. She was previously nominated for Taken from Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story (2011) & Empire (2015). She wins for her performance as Vanetta Teagues on Abbott Elementary.

The buzz around Taraji P. Henson's guest spot on Abbott Elementary was quite high and I was thankful that when I sat down to watch the appearance she not only met the high expectations but also out did them. In playing Janine's mother there was bound to be some drama given what we knew previously about Janine's relationship with her family. Henson played the role perfectly bringing a note of surprise to how her character would react which helped to complicate her relationship with Janine and provide greater material for Henson and Brunson to play. Now that Henson has made her first appearance and was such a success I look forward to future appearances by her character especially opposite more characters.
