Naomi Ackie (Mickey 17, Sorry, Baby, The Thursday Murder Club)
Josh Brolin (The Running Man, Wake Up Dead Man, Weapons)
Katy O'Brian (Christy, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Queens of the Dead, The Running Man)
Josh O'Connor (The History of Sound, The Mastermind, Rebuilding, Wake Up Dead Man)
Amanda Seyfried (The Housemaid, Seven Veils, The Testament of Ann Lee)
AND THE WINNER:
JOSH O'CONNOR (THE HISTORY OF SOUND, THE MASTERMIND, REBUILDING, WAKE UP DEAD MAN)
Josh O'Connor has seriously become a GREATEST ACTOR OF HIS GENERATION with his work over the past decade since his brilliant breakthrough in God's Own Country. 2025 is seriously a banner year for Josh feeling like a build up of the years with four distinct performances that showcase a range even I didn't know he was fully capable of.
The History of Sound is indeed the smallest role he had to play this year with him serving in a smart supporting part to his co-star Paul Mescal. Josh delivers a convincing American dialect and with good chemistry opposite Mescal makes for a sweet coupling in their short but small screen time opposite one another. While O'Connor has to have a small part to play I would've gladly taken more time with the two acting opposite each other.
Rebuilding will likely remain the least discussed film from this year featuring Josh again features a brilliant turn. He was so natural in the part living in the soul of the character he played that I would wish to watch the film again just to experience his great work.
The Mastermind the great Kelly Reichardt directed film like Rebuilding features a similarly feeling lived in performance where I don't see Josh the actor instead am impressed by his stellar leading turn.
Wake Up Dead Man the final piece of his 2025 puzzle will remain my favourite of all his performances and the one key to expanding the extent of his acting I'd not been clued into before as a fan. As the standout priest character O'Connor was great at playing the drama and comedy in each moment.
I do hope post this impressive year Josh can continue to be a good choice making in demand actor. It's just so nice to feel an actor you enjoy has an impressive a year as Josh did in 2025.
