OUTSTANDING MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Josh Brolin as Det. Christian F. “Bigfoot” Bjornsen in “INHERENT VICE”

Michael Fassbender as Frank in “FRANK”

Ethan Hawke as Mason Evans Sr. in “BOYHOOD”

Ben Mendelsohn as Neville Love as in “STARRED UP”

Edward Norton as Mike Shiner in “BIRDMAN”

AND THE WINNER IS:

EDWARD NORTON AS MIKE SHINER IN “BIRDMAN”

This is the first win and second nomination for Edward Norton. He was previously nominated alongside the ensemble of Moonrise Kingdom (2012).

Edward Norton works with director Alejandro G. Inarritu on Birdman. Norton for years over a decade now has been either starring failed oscar films, failed blockbuster films or small critical films and it has been upsetting seeing an actor like Norton who showed such promise towards the end of the 90’s be so overlooked. As Mike Shiner in Birdman finally Norton is able give his heart and perform so well. Although he plays an unlikeable actor (maybe similar to Norton in real life) in scenes opposite Emma Stone we are able to see the character of Mike actually show some depth and throughout the entire film Norton is just brillIant making in exciting to see him finally be given the chance to show his greatness. This is Edward Norton’s first win and nomination.
