These are the first wins and nominations for Ian Hunter & Scott Fisher. This is the first win and second nomination for Paul Franklin having been previously nominated for The Dark Night (2008). Andrew Lockley wins for the second time after a previous win/nomination for Inception (2010).

Similar to most special effects driven features this year story is a major issue with Interstellar probably being the biggest offender of the year nothing can be taken away from the visual design of the film. Taking place throughout several galaxy’s and on several planets the look of this Christopher Nolan world is incredibly beautiful to watch with some standout moments coming from the great journey on the oceanic planet to the final sequence while struggling from story issues is great to watch as the effects are willing to fully embrace everything sci-fi.
