OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford for (“Episode 10”) in “MINDHUNTER”
Scoot McNairy as Gordon Clark for (“Nowhere Man”) in “HALT AND CATCH FIRE”
Lee Pace as Joe MacMillan for (“Signal to Noise”) in “HALT AND CATCH FIRE”
Matthew Rhys as Philip Jennings for (“The Great Patriotic War”) in “THE AMERICANS”
Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh for (“A Company of Men”) in “THE CROWN”
Jeffrey Wright as Bernard Lowe for (“Les Ecorches”) in “WESTWORLD”

AND THE WINNER IS:

MATTHEW RHYS AS PHILIP JENNINGS FOR (“THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR”) IN “THE AMERICANS”

This is the second win and seventh nomination for Matthew Rhys. He previously won for Girls (2017). He was also nominated for The Americans (2013-2016) and with the ensemble of The Americans (2014).

So many times I wanted to reward Rhys for his work on The Americans but there was always somebody who just edged him out but with this being the last season I couldn't help but reward him. He was not only due but worthy of a win. So many great moments of acting including the final season especially when Stan and Philip have their heartbreaking goodbye. While he does speak him out of turning them in it is the silence in Rhys performance that I responded to most. When playing most of his scenes it's about Philip's inner struggle with how his life played out. Rhys was a standout throughout the run in creating this villain who we will sympathy for because he feels bad about the decisions he's been forced into making.
