OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES

Quinta Brunson as Janine Teagues for (“Back to School”) in “ABBOTT ELEMENTARY”
Natasia Demetriou as Nadja of Antipaxos for (“Headhunting”) in "WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS"
Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora for (“Escape From Planet Klongo”) in “ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING”
Stephanie Hsu as Ruby Yao for (“Brandon From College”) in "LAID"
Natasha Rothwell as Melissa for ("Stop Living") in "HOW TO DIE ALONE"
Jean Smart as Deborah Vance for (“A Slippery Slope”) in "HACKS"

AND THE WINNER IS:

STEPHANIE HSU AS RUBY YAO FOR ("BRANDON FROM COLLEGE") IN "LAID"

This is the first win and third nomination for Stephanie Hsu. She was previously nominated for Awkwafina is Nora from Queens (2020) and Poker Face (2023). She wins for her performance as Ruby Yao on Laid.

Stephanie Hsu continues an impressive string of exciting work since first coming to my attention with her hilarious guest appearances on shows like Nora from Queens and Mrs. Maisel through her Oscar nominated turn in Everything Everywhere All At Once (My personal Supporting Actress choice that year). It doesn't get stronger for reliable comedic voices than Hsu which is why the prospect of her leading her own series was an instant watch for me. While the show has sadly been cut short before it could really find itself fully one thing I must praise is Hsu's compelling leading turn which easily claims this trophy from me.

Stephanie is so direct at times in her delivery of comedic that through a mix of deadpan and speaking factually her role as Ruby made me laugh many times through this underrated first season Peacock show. Even though the streaming site has chosen not to continue the series I will appreciate this one season long performance by Hsu and remember it as hopefully Stephanie continues her stellar run of performances.
