AND THE WINNER IS:

JANELLE JAMES AS AVA COLEMAN FOR ("STEP CLASS") IN "ABBOTT ELEMENTARY"

This is the first win and nomination for Janelle James. She wins for her performance as Ava Coleman on Abbott Elementary.

Janelle James as Ava Coleman is one of those iconic television turns that I'm confident will be talked about for the rest of time. James plays Ava without any fear willing to be wildly funny basically every moment she appears on screen and I am entertained the entire time by everything James is doing. "Step Class" the episode I've chosen to highlight her greatness for me provides another side to the Ava character besides her wild humour and that is her heart which James plays so well especially when more details of Ava are revealed like how human she is when she doesn't want to think of failing. Truly James is just one of many incredible performers on Abbott Elementary and I look forward to the season to come when we get more special moments from Janelle James as Ava.
