This is the first win each for Jane Campion and Gerard Lee for their first nominations for their writing of the miniseries Top of the Lake.
Campion most known for her oscar winning writing for The Piano came to television with an exciting and intriging miniseries that while it had a clear ending still felt like there was so much more to have been explored. With great writing comes great character development which was well done throughout all the characters most given distint personalities no matter how large the role. Also the writing was great to set the atmosphere of the show which was easily set and made for such an enjoyable miniseries not having it be surprising Campion and her writing partner Lee where bedhind this great work.
