OUTSTANDING DIRECTING FOR A DRAMA SERIES

Stefan Schwartz for ("Chloramphencol"), The Americans
Miguel Sapochnik for ("Battle of the Bastards"), Game of Thrones
Kimberly Peirce for ("Play with Friends"), Halt and Catch Fire
Vincenzo Natali for ("Antipasto"), Hannibal
Craig Zobel for ("International Assassin"), The Leftovers

AND THE WINNER IS:

MIGUEL SAPOCHNIK FOR ("BATTLE OF THE BASTARDS"), GAME OF THRONES

This is the first win and nomination for Miguel Sapochnik.

Game of Thrones is a show I love and hate at the same time because my overall opinion of the show seems to change frequetly from moment to moment but when the show hits it I know it's some incredible television. As is the case with both of Sapochnik's episodes especially the penultimate episode of the season "Battle of Bastards?. He filmed this extended battle sequence so well clearly inspired by previous filmed battles and actual descriptions of real life battles to make this some captivating television to watch visually. Sapochnik really is another find with the directors of Game of Thrones and I can't fault anything he done on the show this season because he clearly has an eye.
