OUTSTANDING DOCUMENTARY

Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami (Directed by Sophie Fiennes)
Half the Picture (Directed by Amy Adrion)
McQueen (Directed by Ian Bonhote)
Whitney (Directed by Kevin Macdonald)
Won’t You Be My Neighbor (Directed by Morgan Neville)

AND THE WINNER IS:

WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR (DIRECTED BY MORGAN NEVILLE)

This is the first win and third nomination for Morgan Neville. He was previously nominationed for directing the documentaries 20 Feet from Stardom (2013) and Best of Enemies (2015).

Yet again another great documentary is overlooked by the academy awards. Somehow previous winner Morgan Neville wags snubbed for his documentary about childhood hero Mr. Rogers. I was unfamiliar with Mr. Rogers and all he did for the American youth's for nearly 40 years. Some might accuse the film of being a predictable biography documentary which might be partially true but that does not mean that it’s not a great film. It’s well constructed and has a great ending to boot. I’ve gotten over it being ignored by the highest awards body in film because I’ll always have the memory of watching this great film.
