OUTSTANDING FILM EDITING

Yorgos Mavropsaridis for The Favourite
Joi McMillon & Nat Sanders for If Beale Street Could Talk
Eddie Hamilton for Mission: Impossible – Fallout
Keiko Deguchi & Brian A Kates for We the Animals
Joe Walker for Widows

AND THE WINNER IS:

JOE WALKER FOR WIDOWS

This is the second win and fourth nomination for Joe Walker. He previously won for 12 Years a Slave (2013) and was nominated for Hunger (2008) & Shame (2011). Third award for Widows following the win for Debicki and the ensemble. It takes a lot for me to see a film more than once in the cinema so close to the first time I watched it, Widows was the rare film that I saw it again. The reason I saw this again was how pleasurable a cineamtic experience it was. Walker this past decade as edited some of the most high profile awards films but still I feel he is underappreciated by a lot of film goers out there. His work in Widows is near perfect as scenes feel smooth transitioning from one to the other. As seen the above robbery scene is completly tense and I was captivated with a lot achieved through chosen shots as the job progressed. Well done to Walker for contining to do what he's been doing and hopefully he'll be more widely known.
