RUTH E. CARTER FOR BLACK PANTHER
This is the first win and nomination for Ruth E. Carter.
Designing costumes for a superhero film doesn’t usually allow for truly creative thinking however in 2018’s Black Panther finally a designer of a Marvel film was allowed to fully spread their creative thinking. Carter a long working costume designer created so many inventive pieces. The costumes were both beautiful and practical as many of these characters fought with their phists. The colour combinations were especially great with so many bright reds, yellows, oranges and greens being used through out, depending on which tribe in this futuristic Wakandan nation that they belonged to. The traditionally african clothing combined with the instricite futuristic elements combined to make costumes that will be referenced in pop culture for years to come.
