OUTSTANDING COSTUME DESIGN

Ruth E. Carter for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Monika Buttinger for Corsage
Shirley Kurata for Everything Everywhere All at Once
Jenny Beaven for Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris
Sophie O’Neill and Zac Posen for The Outfit

AND THE WINNER:

SHIRLEY KURATA FOR EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

This is the first win and nomination for Shirley Kurata.

What makes me most excited about awarding Kurata for her costume design work is how expansive and varied the designs are as the film explores the many multi-universes. Even the simplest of costumes which are the outfits we first get to know the Wang family in are stunning and just so well designed that the image of them have stayed with me since seeing the film almost a year ago. Then there are the multitude of costumes introduced as we get to know Everlyn Wang in her multiple lives. My favourite being the universe where Evelyn has become movie star where she and her co-stars are dressed in their highest couture designs.

Truly the work here by Kurata is so beautiful that I adore each new universe because it introduces new costumes for me to enjoy. As a final note in this category it is exciting that a contemporary film such as EEAAO includes some incredible costuming and another reason in me choosing it is how contemporary films tend to get overlooked in favour of period costuming.
