OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL FILM

Decision to Leave (Directed by Park Chan-wook)
Great Freedom (Directed by Sebastian Meise)
Happening (Directed by Audrey Diwan)
Neptune Frost (Directed by Saul Williams & Anisia Uzeyman)
Saint Omer (Directed by Alice Diop)

AND THE WINNER:

HAPPENING (DIRECTED BY AUDREY DIWAN)

These are the first win and nomination for Audrey Diwan.

Unfornuately 4 decades past the time period in which this film is set the debate on what women should be allowed to do with their bodies somehow has reverted back to the tragic times in which this film takes place. Even if the film wasn't as relevant to the current moment as it is I still believe the film to be incredible. The film doesn't shy away from how horrorfying the decision made in this film is and how even scarier it is made when their isn't legal access to safe healthcare (which sadly parts of the world are still experiencing today.) I really adore this film and hope many can check it out because it deserves to be seen as both a time capsule but also a warning to those who seek to restrict women's rights.

An incredible film which showcases how lack of safe abortions will not stop them from happening instead it will just cause more death when unsafe treatments are seeked out.
