OUTSTANDING PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

Olivia Colman (Empire of Light, Mothering Sunday, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish)
Colin Farrell (After Yang, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Batman, Thirteen Lives)
Lashana Lynch (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Matilda the Musical, The Woman King)
Jenny Slate (The Bob’s Burgers Movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On)
Tilda Swinton (The Eternal Daughter, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Three Thousand Years of Longing)

AND THE WINNER:

COLIN FARRELL (AFTER YANG, THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN, THE BATMAN, THIRTEEN LIVES)

If anyone's career has been all over the place since their humble beginning Colin Farrell has to be one of those performers who has had both highs and lows throughout. Thankfully when it comes to 2022 it is simply height after height. This year featured four films with some incredible work by him. Thirteen Lives to fiction telling of the Tham Luang cave rescue and while not the most memorable film it is at its most impressive when Colin is on screen. The first of Colin's films I saw this year was The Batman and as is evident from the above the clip if you were to see who Colin played in the film it would take you a very long time to recognise who he was playing. Colin disappears into the role and you just get to enjoy pure character work from him.

After Yang was released around the same time as The Batman and showed a great contrast for Colin's acting as he went much more subtle with his performance in Yang. And the final film of his released this year is the film he is deservedly getting the most critical acclaim for, that film being The Banshees of Inisherin. The film calls for theatrics but Farrell is at his most impressive in the film when he quietly is hurt by the loss of a very important friendship. In conclusion 2022 has become such a banner year for Farrell that it has resulted in a major awards nomination with a first career academy award nomination. I hope he can continue this momentum because it was a pleasure experiencing each of his films this year.
