OUTSTANDING MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Brian Tyree Henry as James Aucoin in “CAUSEWAY”
Barry Keoghan as Dominic Kearney in “THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN”
Justin H. Min as Yang in “AFTER YANG”
Ke Huy Quan as Waymond Wang in “EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE”
Ben Whishaw as August in “WOMEN TALKING”

AND THE WINNER:

KE HUY QUAN AS WAYMOND WANG IN "EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE"

This is the first win and nomination for Ke Huy Quan. He wins for his performance as Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Honestly speaking I almost wanted to award Ke Huy Quan this award simply for the narrative of him getting cast in this role. It is such an exciting casting choice and thankfully alongside with the story of why and how he got cast in his role there is also the performance which is truly an incredible one. The role of Waymond like all of the central trio of the Wang family isn't an easy one to play on paper because due to the multiple universe storyline you are expected to play your role but in many different iterations. Quan probably has the most fun with his role from the very beginning and the above scene is a great example of that.

Quan's Waymond is the heart of the film and without his complex turn the film wouldn't work as incredibly well as it does. Whether it's fighting a whole bunch of office workers, being the supportive but weak husband or the sexy long last love Ke Huy Quan brings life and excellence to each iteration of his role and somethings acts in these characters from scene to scene. As I said at the beginning part of the excitement of this role is how this comeback role has come about and truly it has been so rewarding and exciting to see so many fall in love with Ke Huy Quan this season including myself. I expect him to be the overall supporting actor winner and I am so exciting that this is going to happen.
