OUTSTANDING FILM EDITING

Kogonada for After Yang
Blair McClendon for Aftersun
Kim Sang-beom for Decision to Leave
Paul Rogers for Everything Everywhere All at Once
Monika Willi for Tár

AND THE WINNER:

PAUL ROGERS FOR EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

This is the first win and nomination for Paul Rogers.

Incredible film editing is absolutely one of the most important elements of why Everything Everywhere All at Once works as a film. With so many scenes moving so quickly between many different universes strong editing is necessary to keep the audiences attention and thankfully with Paul Rogers editing the jumping through universes worked incredible well. For me there was not a wasted shot featured and everything flowed so well together that I couldn't keep my eyes away from the screen.

What also made the quicker scenes work was when the film took a moment to slow down and focus on the character beats those moments worked just as well. Truly the film would be much less effecting emotionally were it not for strong film editing so I simply say bravo to Rogers the editor chosen for this film.
