AND THE WINNER:

HELENA BONHAM CARTER (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS - PART 1, THE KING'S SPEECH)

Helena Bonham Carter over her nearly 30 year career has had a career full of many different directions. She started as a period piece Ingénue, transitioned into weird character actress and with her work in 2010 has been able to combine all the elements that audiences have grown to love her in.

First is Alice in Wonderland where she reunites with Tim Burton again and plays the big headed queen of hearts. It's fun watching Carter in this role as she gets to let loose and sort've makes up for the other lesser moments of the film. Not many actors could pull off an enlarged head but Carter being the weird and wacky performer she is makes it feel almost non existent on her body.

Next is her work in the Harry Potter series playing perfectly cast Bellatrix Lestrange. As usual she's a welcome presence in the franchise and even if you look at Lestrange and the queen they are both wild turns but entirely different which makes me give more praise to Carter.

The final role of her year and what amounted in her long overdue follow up oscar nom was The King's Speech which had Carter playing Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. It's certainly the most subtle role Carter has been asked to play in such a long time reminisent of roles from her early career. Carter is good to watch in the film and it acts as a great contrasting piece to her other projects from 2010.

Overall this was a banner year for Carter and I hope promises a great decade to follow full of interesting projects.
