OUTSTANDING DIRECTING FOR A DRAMA SERIES

Phil Abraham for (“Cut Man”), Dardevil

Miguel Sapochnik for (“Hardhome”), Game of Thrones

Steven Soderbergh for (“Get the Rope”), The Knick

Jodie Foster for (“Thirsty Bird”), Orange is the New Black

J.A, Bayona for (“Night Work”), Penny Dreadful

AND THE WINNER IS:

MIGUEL SAPOCHNIK FOR (“HARDHOME”), GAME OF THRONES

This is the first win and nomination for Miguel Sapochnik for his direction of the episode “Hardhome” on Game of Thrones Season 5.

The fifth season of Game of Thrones had it’s highs and lows that really made it quite a mixed season for me but when it came to high “Hardhome” was probably better then anything the show has ever or will ever do. The season had been slow building up and building up and this episode especially paid off on the build up between the Dany/Tyrion meeting to the Cersei in the ceils and of course more then anything the extended visit to Hardhome. Sapochnik was a director I had no previous relationship to but now I will track were he goes next because of how strong this direction effort was. The Hardhome section really highlighted the brillance of the episode where there was so much going on but we were able to track everything at the same time. Just a brillant episode that I could watch over and over again.
