EVA GREEN AS VANESSA IVES FOR (“POSSESSION”) IN “PENNY DREADFUL”

This is the first win and nomination for Eva Green for her performance as Vaneesa Ives in the episode “Possession” in Penny Dreadful Season 1.

Eva Green has always been a capable actress in her multiple film performances but never has she been given multiple possibilities to go balls to the wall out crazy and play Vanessa Ives a great character tortured by evils seemingly out of control. In her standout episode “Possession” Green from the very beginning till the very end is called to fully put herself into this character’s head space as she struggles to keep any part of herself taken over by evils that have been building up in her all season. People may be put off by how wild and loose green is in playing this character but for me never was I anything but compelled by watching this performnace. Green is not afraid to look horrible and scary and this adds to the brillance of this fully captivating performance. In a year of strong leading female performances from women of all ages and types never was one more powerful then the work done by Green who all in all gave my favourite performance of the television season.
