OUTSTANDING VISUAL EFFECTS FOR A SERIES, MINISERIES OR MOVIE

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (“What They Become”)

Extant (“Re-Entry”)

The Flash (“Grodd Lives”)

Game of Thrones (“The Dance of Dragons”)

The Strain (“Night Zero”)

AND THE WINNER IS:

THE FLASH (“GRODD LIVES”)

This is the first win for Willard Cochrane, Michael Walls, Karen Goffred, Dan Lopez, Gregory Pierce, Emanuel Rosario and the second win for Armen V. Kevorkian for their visual effects work for The Flash Season 1 episode “Grodd Lives”. This is everyone other then Kevorkian’s first nomination. Armen V. Kevorkian was previously nominated for Star Trek: Voyager (2000-2001), Star Trek: Enterprise (2002-2003), Alias (2005), Lost (2005).

When it comes to visual effects on a tv budget there is the possibility that most shows will forego quality because they simply can’t afford to create the same level of effects as is seen on the big screen. However in the messes of visual effects there exists a small group of quality shows with credible effects and this year the best among the bunch was the work done by the artists working on the first season of The Flash. The standout visual effects episode was the episode where we saw Grodd in all his glory and while it can be easier to create non living things in darkness the episode was still lit well and showed off the greatness of this creation of the gigantic Grodd. The show never lets effects look terrible and this attention to quality and design made their effects the most pleasing of the entire tv year.
