This is the first win and nomination for Nicole Beharie. She has won for her performance as Turquoise Jones.
Nicole Beharie is an actor of great talent that when given the opportunity to soar flies higher then many of her contemporaries. Miss Juneteenth was just the right film for her to be so excellent. The performance is it's most excellent in how solid a characterisation that Beharie creates making her Turquoise almost documentarian in it's realism. The performance is quite understated and full of strength as we all see her strive for better while the world is constantly working against her.
I hope that based on the clear love many have for Beharie in this film that it isn't a very long time until we get to experience her in a role like this because if the world was the just Nicole would be yearly delivering like she does in Miss Juneteenth.
