OUTSTANDING DIRECTING FOR A DRAMA SERIES

Timothy Van Patten for (“Farewell Daddy Blues”), Boardwalk Empire

Rian Johnson for (“Ozymandias”), Breaking Bad

Michelle MacLaren for (“Buired”), Breaking Bad

David Slade for (“Mizumono”), Hannibal

Cary Joji Fukunaga for (“Who Goes There”), True Detective

AND THE WINNER IS:

RIAN JOHNSON FOR ("OZYMANDIAS"), BREAKING BAD

Last Year’s Winner: David Nutter for (“The Rains of Castamer”), Game of Thrones

This is the first win for Rian Johnson on his second nomination for his work on Breaking Bad.

Similar to the writing of the episode Ozymandias the directing by Rian Johnson was just as genius. Rian Johnson with Ozymandias directs his third episode for the show following Fly and Fifty One. The flourishes in his directing style are clearly present all over the episode from some brillant point of view shots to the repeating image of the knife and phone on the kitchen table which is refrenched in the episode three times and each time makes the situation the more horrific. Johnson is one of the great directors for the show and another point of his direction is how tension can be taken from simple quick changes to the story and Johnson proves with this episode the pure talents he posses.
