OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTOR IN A MINISERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION

Chiwetel Ejiofor as Louis Lester in “DANCING ON THE EDGE”

Martin Freeman as Lester Nygaard in “FARGO”

Tom Hiddleston as Prince Hal/King Henry IV in “THE HOLLOW CROWN”

Mark Ruffalo as Ned Weeks in “THE NORMAL HEART”

Billy Bob Thorton as Lorne Malvo in “FARGO”

Ben Whishaw as King Richard II in “THE HOLLOW CROWN”

AND THE WINNER IS:

BEN WHISHAW AS KING RICHARD II IN "THE HOLLOW CROWN"

Last Year’s Winner: Michael Douglas as Liberace in “BEHIND THE CANDELABRA”

This is the first win for Ben Whishaw on his second nomination for his work on The Hollow Crown.

The Hollow Crown was a very interesting piece of Shakspeare and of the performances captured Ben Whishaw just with ease was fantastic. Whishaw as an actor is able to disappear into all his characters from his previous nomination to his work as Richard II which is the best work of his career for me. Whishaw unlike many actors can handle the shakespeare language so well that words just flow from his mouth and then his movement in character is just so good he had to win this award for this performance. Whishaw is still young and I hope he continues to grow to give performances like this over and over again.
