Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth Taylor in “BURTON AND TAYLOR”

Olivia Colman as Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller  in “BROACHURCH”

Rebecca Ferguson as Elizabeth Woodville in “THE WHITE QUEEN”

Jessica Lange as Fiona Goode in “AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN”

Kristen Wiig as Cynthia Morehouse in “THE SPOILS OF BABYLON”

AND THE WINNER IS:

OLIVIA COLMAN AS DETECTIVE SERGEANT ELLIE MILLER IN "BROADCHURCH"

Last Year’s Winner: Elisabeth Moss as Det. Robin Griffin in “TOP OF THE LAKE”

This is the first win for Olivia Colman for her first nomination for her work on Broadchurch.

When finishing Broadchurch I was astonded by Colman’s performance as Ellie in the first series of the uk show Broadchurch. The role is quite challenging as she is called to be strong and non-emotive especially in the situation the character is found in and Colman plays this strength stronger then I have ever seen her before and when the twist by the end of the series comes we see how distraut Ellie is. Colman gives such a great performance that even in a category filled with equally talented performances the emotionally connection I formed with Colman’s performance forced me to award her this win.
