OUTSTANDING BREAKTHROUGH/DEBUT

Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible – Rouge Nation)

Arielle Holmes (Heaven Knows What)

Bel Powley (The Diary of a Teenage Girl)

Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens)

Amy Schumer (Trainwreck)

AND THE WINNER IS:

BEL POWLEY (THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL)

In a year of great year for actresses it’s no surprise that each of the breakthrough nominees I nominated this year were women. However while there were some great work by women one breakthrough stands above. That is Bel Powley who just is the best in The Diary of a Teenage Girl. With this performance Powley could have easily given the young starlet kind of turn but she never falls into this expected performance and is just such a different teenager like none we’ve seen on screen and even when acting opposite the more known actors she easily owns the film and hopefully with this great turn she will be given new opportunities to impress.
