OUTSTANDING SOUND EDITING

Niv Adiri, Ben Barker, Danny Freemantle & Glenn Freemantle for Ex Machina

Mark A. Mangini & David White for Mad Max: Fury Road

Alan Robert Murray or Sicario

Matthew Wood & David Acord for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Eriko Kimura & Jamie Simone for When Marnie Was There

AND THE WINNER IS:

MATTHEW WOOD & DAVID ACORD FOR STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS

This is the first win for David Acord & second for Matthew Wood for the sound editing work for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Wood won prior for WALL•E (2008) and was also nominated for There Will Be Blood (2007).

When thinking back on 2015 surely Star Wars is the cultural event that will define the year and no matter your opinion on the film itself you can’t take away the fact that the production of the film was so strong that it really turned out successful. Wood and Acord had a lot to live up to from previous instalments of the series and they did there work strong and really stand high with previous sound editors of the series. From the sounds of the light saber’s to the sound’s coming from creature and space ship alike the work really calls back to previous sound effects as well as making new unique ones to add to this great franchise universe.
