OUTSTANDING FILM EDITING

Affonso Gonçalves for Carol

Claudia Castello & Michael P. Shawver for Creed

Mark Day for Ex Machina

Margaret Sixel for Mad Max: Fury Road

Sean Baker for Tangerine

AND THE WINNER IS:

AFFONSO GONÇALVES FOR CAROL

This is the first win and nomination for Affonso Gonçalves for his editing of Carol.

So if people care to count that’s four award (three in a row) for Carol and again it’s just too easy to reward this film every possible prize because of how brilliant it is. I feel upon the release of the film the editing was overlooked just for no being flashy in the expected ways but the work being done by Gonçalves is just as impressive as any other big crazy film edit. The edit of Carol is so fluid and loose that we the film transitions from scene to scene with the greatess of ease and precision. The narrative is clearly told through glancing images of these women’s life’s in such a short period of time. It’s such a feat of how film editing is the invisible director that I have to call out here how impressive Gonçalves’ work was because other bodies (e.g. ACE Eddie’s) just choose to overlook this impeccable work.
