OUTSTANDING PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

Cate Blanchett (Carol, Cinderella, Truth)

Domhnall Gleeson (Brooklyn, Ex Machina, The Revenant, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens)

Peter Sarsgaard (Black Mass, Experimenter, Pawn Sacrifice)

Alicia Vikander (Burnt, The Danish Girl, Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Testament of Youth)

Kristen Wiig (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, The Martian, Nasty Baby, Welcome to Me)

AND THE WINNER IS:

CATE BLANCHETT (CAROL, CINDERELLA, TRUTH)

When you think about the best actors currently working today Cate Blanchett easily rises above many and the fact she gave three performances at this level in one year is a feet no other could do. In Cinderella she plays the villainess Lady Tremaine, having only fun with this role she calls back to Joan Crawford with the great laugh and just perfect timing. In Truth she plays Mary Mapes and even in a film that isn’t good enough for Blanchett’s gifts he fully invests in this character and is just to good to forget. There are many moments in this film that show Blanchett at her best but if I were to call out one moment out it is when Mapes is defending herself and even in a room of all men Blanchett shines and easily wins the film. Finally in Carol she plays the titular character Carol Aird. Possibly Blanchett’s greatest performance every second she is on screen is a standout performance moment of pure genius. No actress reads dialogue like Blanchett and Carol is the prove of this with even the slightest change in tone your heart breaks for this women. Of course above all the court speech is her greatest moment and returning to line reading her delivery of “We’re Not Ugly People, Harge” is one of the single greatest actors moments I think I’ve even witnessed. Again it’s just mind blowing that Blanchett gave all these performances this year and I just say thank you to Cate Blanchett for being so great.
