Odile Dicks-Mireaux for Brooklyn

Sandy Powell for Carol

Kate Hawley for Crimson Peak

Janet Patterson for Far From the Madding Crowd

Jacqueline Durran for Macbeth

AND THE WINNER IS:

SANDY POWELL FOR CAROL

This is the fourth win and tenth nominaion for Sandy Powell. She previous won for Velvet Goldmine (1998), Far from Heaven (2002) & Hugo (2011) and was nominated for The Wings of the Dove (1997), Shakespeare in Love (1998), The End of the Affair (1999), Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004) & The Young Victoria (2009).

Sandy Powell just is a costume design master at this point and even with her many wonderful creations of the year she really outdone herself with Carol. Not only has she perfectly captured the clothing of the 1950’s decade but fully created these characters looks better then anyway I ever could have imagined. Just look for example of how the clothing is intertwined with the arcs of it’s characters showing the growth of the Therese character out also the opening of the Carol character. So many vibrant colours and different textures to the work of the costumes that every time I watch the film the costumes stand strong among the impeccable production side of this brilliant film.
