Last Year’s Winner: Production Design by Thérèse DePrez; Set Design by Tora Peterson for Black Swan

When the cast of a film and idea are good the next step is for the sets whether made or in real life. The winning art and set director’s won the oscar for this film and have won the art direction prize from me at least more than twice, they are probably the best art directing couple in the business and the set for their winning film this year was just stunning. The runner up is the more simple work done in “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy“, the set embodied the period of the cold war were the film was based in as well as making this simple film even better to watch.

The winning set is the one of “Hugo“, Martin Scorsese managed to make a ‘Kid’s’ film into an interesting and visually stunning film, maybe that was due the sets that are some of the best I have ever seen in the late history of film and that’s why this film won the award.
