Jessica Chastain as Celia Foote in “THE HELP”

Melissa McCarthy as Megan in “BRIDESMAIDS”

Carey Mulligan as Sissy in “SHAME”

Vanessa Redgrave as Volumnia in “CORIOLANUS”

AND THE WINNER IS…..

CAREY MULLIGAN AS SISSY IN "SHAME"

Last Year’s Winner: Olivia Williams as Ruth Lang in “THE GHOST WRITER”

The first big award I will give is the award for best supporting actress. The women who won this category is a second time nominee who is winning her first award after being previously nominated as a Leading Actress. The runner up in this category is first time nominee and 2011 breakout Jessica Chastain who had many supporting roles worthy of a win but her standout was her devastating work in “THE HELP“. She had screentime sprinkled throughout the film and what Chastain does best is standout from the rest especially having her performance mix with the perfect pitch of comedy and drama making for the best of her long list of work this year.

And finally the winner is second time nominee and first time winner Carey Mulligan for her work in “SHAME“. The movie Shame was a surprise when it first came out to me because of how moved I could be moved by a film about sex addiction and that is because of it’s two main stars Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan who continues to grow and grow that is seems she is still in the early stages of her career. Her most memorable moment comes from her performance in a long tape of New York, New York and it just showed the emotions Mulligan had to act throughout and how moving this portrayal is that if she keeps building on her list of credits like this she will one of better actresses her age working.
