AND THE WINNER IS:

KENYA BARRIS FOR ("HOPE"), BLACK-ISH

This is the first win and nomination for Kenya Barris. He wins for his writng of the season 2 episode "Hope".

black-ish a show I respected and admired greatly in season with the help of a loyal fandom and critical acclaim took more and more creative risks in it's second season which paid off immensly. This risk taking while not a new form of story telling is a type of story telling so rarely seen on network tv nowadays. The episode tackles the real problem of gun violence of black america. Like the shows of the 70s and 80s the episode wasn't afraid to get right into issue presenting all sides of the argument. Barris and his writing staff blew away my expectations for the show and while the show might stay great will never match this peak episode is no big deal because the episode is that strong and that singular.
