OUTSTANDING ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

Screenplay by David Kajganich; Based on La Piscine by Alain Page, A Bigger Splash
Screenplay by Park Chan-wook & Chung Seo-kyung; Based on Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, The Handmaiden
Screenplay by Whit Stillman; Based on Lady Susan by Jane Austen, Love & Friendship
Screenplay by Barry Jenkins; Story by Tarell Alvin McCraney; Based on In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney, Moonlight
Screenplay by Jay Cocks & Martin Scorsese; Based on Silence by Shusaku Endo, Silence

AND THE WINNER IS:

SCREENPLAY BY BARRY JENKINS; STORY BY TARELL ALVIN MCCRANEY; BASED ON IN MOONLIGHT BLACK BOYS LOOK BLUE BY TARELL ALVIN MCCRANEY, MOONLIGHT

These are the first wins for Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney for their screenplay adaptation for Moonlight.

Having never watched or read the McCraney unproduced play "In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue" I was just blown away by to me an original film. Jenkins clearly relates to the story from McCraney and the two together really craft an endlessly beautiful film. Taking the three act structure of the play and transitioning it to the screen can be trickey but each act informs the next creating a stellar stage to screen adaptation.
