AND THE WINNER IS:

BARRY JENKINS FOR MOONLIGHT

This is the second win and nomination for Barry Jenkins. He also won for his adapted screenplay for Moonlight.

Oh Barry Jenkins why are you so talented and so respectful of cinema in the right way unlike some younger directors who everyone else loves that I just can't support. Jenkins makes Moonlight a film of it's own but also a visual reference that comes across as respect rather than pail recreation. Jenkins shows such a high level of talent with only his second feature that I'm so floored that I hadn't properly appreciated his debut feature all those years ago. Jenkins makes a story separated into three distinct chapters so well sewn that my final word on why he has won by director's prize is BRAVO!!
