TREVANTE RHODES (MOONLIGHT)

Most of the cast aside from Ali, Harris and Holland are new to the screen so anyone of them could've been nominated and possibly won this breakthrough category. Rhodes however is one of the most impressive performances of the year and the fact it came from Rhodes a former field sprinter turned actor is both a performance full of insecurity but also great empathy. Rhodes builds on the two prior iterations of Chiron (having not seen them until film screenings) and completes this in the life narrative of Moonlight with quite the satisfying wollope. Rhodes radiats on screen and more then most actors this year who are hailed for great work contains a natural screen persona that pulls you in especially to this Chiron character.
