OUTSTANDING DOCUMENTARY

13th (Directed by Ava DuVernay)
De Palma (Directed by Noah Baumbach & Jake Paltrow)
Newtown (Directed by Kim A. Snyder)
O.J. Made in America (Directed by Ezra Edelman)
Pervert Park (Directed by Frida Barkfors & Lasse Barkfors)

AND THE WINNER IS:

O.J. MADE IN AMERICA (DIRECTED BY EZRA EDELMAN)

Over 20 years later we are still talking about O.J. and all he did or didn't do on that fatal night in 1994. This documentary unlike the also great limited series from earlier in the year focuses more on O.J.'s place in American History as a black man but also a sympol of celebrity. The documentary is a long in depth look at America's struggle with racisim framed around the life of O.J. who represents the feared man and the guilty man even though he was never punished for the terrible 1994 killings. Edelman deserves a lot of praise for not just calling out O.J. for his bad behaviour but also calling out society in general from both sides as everyone was guilty. It's some great documentary film making that I don't think I'll every forget.
