OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL SCORE

Mica Levi for Jackie
Justin Hurwitz for La La Land
Nicholas Britell for Moonlight
Laurent Perez Del Mar for The Red Turtle
Andy Hull & Robert McDowell for Swiss Army Man

AND THE WINNER IS:

MICA LEVI FOR JACKIE

This is the second win and nomination for Mica Levi for her original score for Jackie. She previously won for Under the Skin (2014).

I had hoped Mica Levi would be brought in to score many films post her breakthrough with Under the Skin and two years without hearing her notes has been difficult but when I heard the opening bars sitting down to see this film I was while aware this was a Levi score blown away yet again. Sharing similaries to Under the Skin but a completely different approach it's another spine chilling and informing score to the film it is featured in. There seems to be something scary about her work especially the swaying strings of tracks like "Children" and "Intro". Probably the strongest element of Jackie Levi's score digs holes into your mind connecting to the place where you most suffer and visualizing that as you see a character like Jackie Kennedy suffer multiple tradegies in such a immediate period of time.
