ARI WEGNER FOR THE POWER OF THE DOG
This is the first win and nomination for Ari Wegner. She was double nominated for cinematography this year.
Did you see the dog or did you not? Part of what makes the photography of Power of the Dog so great is how not loud it is the entire time. The photography acts so well in tune with every other element of the film that I just adore it. With the film set almost entirely on the western plains it was sure to be a challenge for any DP to try and differentiate the look of the film from any western that has come before. Thankfully Wegner shot this film so expertly that while I think of westerns past this film is so its own film looks wise.
