OUTSTANDING DIRECTOR

AND THE WINNER:

JANE CAMPION FOR THE POWER OF THE DOG

This is the second win and fifth nomination for Jane Campion having previously won for writing Power of the Dog. She was previously nominated for directing The Portrait of a Lady (1996) & Bright Star (2009). She was also nominated for writing Bright Star.

While there was a lot of great directing efforts this past year my choice of Campion as the winner is honestly a no brainer. There is a reason she has dominated the directing prizes this awards season so far and that is because her skill is so beyond and so effortless. With Dog she crafts yet another isolated yet large scale universe and it is so much to behold. Campion is easily one of histories greatest directors and has proven with her latest feature that she is beyond bloody brilliant.

P.S. I look forward to Campion winning the final directing prize at the academy awards especially as a fan of Campion for far too long. She has deserved this prize for over 30 years.
