This is the first win and nomination for Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson.
Again I come to a situation where I could have awarded Flee but instead to spread the wealth I've decided to award the equally as great Summer of Soul with my documentary prize. What makes this piece of film making especially great is how fantastic the archived footage is all edited together. The footage and historical impact of the films subject is vital and important to behold for any fan of music. This is such an astounding piece of film making and should be appreciated by all. What also makes the film more impressive is how much fun the audience can have tuning in.
